MPRJ: Project Stops Responding or Type 2 Error When Typing Password

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you save or open a project and type a password in the Save Options dialog box or the Password dialog box, Microsoft Project may stop responding.

Additionally, you may receive the following error message:

The application "Microsoft Project" has unexpectedly quit, because an error of type 2 occurred.

You should save your work in other open applications and restart the computer.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you use Microsoft Project on a computer running Macintosh System version 8.6, and you do any of the following:

  • You open a project that is password protected, and type a password.


-or-

  • In a project that does not currently have a password, you click Save As on the File menu; click Options, and type in a new password.


-or-

  • In a project that is password protected, you click Save As on the File menu, and then click Options.


WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use either Macintosh System version 8.5 or earlier or Macintosh System version 9.0 or later.
