BUG #: 56282 (SQLBUG_70)

SYMPTOMS

The SQL Enterprise Manager reports a Login failed message when trying to edit or run a Data Transformation Services (DTS) package. All of the following conditions need to be met for this error to occur:

  • SQL Server 7.0 is registered using standard security in SQL Enterprise Manager.
  • The option "Always prompt for login and password" is selected.
  • The password of the account is not null.

When the preceding conditions are met and the registered user tries to edit or run a local DTS package, they receive the following error message:

Error Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Error Description: Login failed for user '<registered user>'

WORKAROUND

The error can be avoided if the user selects "Save Connection information and do not prompt again" upon connecting to the registered server in the SQL Enterprise Manager.
