SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to reinstall or re-apply Microsoft Site Server 3.0 SP3, the following warning dialog may appear:

Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 3
This service pack is already installed.
It cannot be installed again unless it is first uninstalled.

CAUSE

Microsoft Site Server 3.0 SP3 is already installed. In order to reinstall Site Server 3.0 SP3, you must modify the registry.

WORKAROUND

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

  1. Start the Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, located the following registry key:

        Software\Microsoft\Site Server\SP3\Components\SS3SP3

  3. Change the VALUE of this key to 0.
