Cannot Show IMAP Special Folders in Outlook Express on Windows 2000 Computer

ID: Q247299

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Outlook Express to make the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) special folders Drafts and Sent Items into non-special folders, then hide the folders, and then make them into special folders again, the folders are not visible when you set the attribute to show them. Also, the Show button is not available.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior:

  • For the Drafts or Sent Items folders, set the attribute to show the folders before making them special folders.
  • For the Inbox, Drafts, or Sent Items folders, create a new folder with the same name as the hidden folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.

MORE INFORMATION

By default, Microsoft Outlook Express has three IMAP special folders: Inbox, Drafts and Sent Items. You can rename Drafts and Sent Items and make them into non-special folders by using the IMAP tab in the properties for the IMAP account. The Inbox is always a special folder.
