SYMPTOMS

When you are installing the Access Workflow Designer server components, you may receive the following error message at the beginning of the installation process:

Error configuring SQL Server Agent

When you view the SetupS.Log file (located in the server computer's C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Developer folder, by default), you see error-message text similar to the following:

   18:10:09 SQLServerAgent owner: LocalSystem
18:10:09 MSSQLServer and SQLServerAgent services need to be logged in
using a valid domain account and run in Windows NT Authentication Mode.
See SQL Server Books Online for more information.
18:10:19 Setup cannot continue with installation. Click OK to exit the
Setup program. For help with installation requirements, see the
"Installation and Setup" topic in the Administrator's Guide
   (modAdminGuide.chm).
   18:10:22 Unloading System Support DLLs
   18:10:22 Unloading Application Support DLLs
   18:10:22 Setup completed.

CAUSE

When you are installing and using the Access Workflow Designer server components, the MSSQLServer and SQLServerAgent services must be logged in with a valid domain account. This valid domain account must run in Microsoft Windows NT Authentication Mode.

For more information about authentication, refer to SQL Server 7.0 Books Online, which is available for download from the following Microsoft Web site:

If the MSSQLServer and SQLServerAgent services are not logged in with a valid domain account, you continue to receive the error message mentioned in the "Symptoms" section and are unable to install the Access Workflow Designer server components.

RESOLUTION

Ensure that the MSSQLServer and SQLServerAgent services use a valid Windows NT domain account. This login account should be the same login account used when Microsoft SQL Server was originally installed. (Typically, this login account is the local administrator or a member of the Administrators local group.)
