Standby in Shut Down Not Available in IBM ThinkPad 380XD When APM Is Enabled

SYMPTOMS

When you are using an IBM ThinkPad 380XD portable computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and you enable advanced power management (APM), which is typically automatically enabled, the Standby option does not appear in the Shut Down Windows dialog box.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior:

  1. In Control Panel, double-click Power Options, click the APM tab, and then click to clear the Enable Advanced Power Management Support check box.
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. In Control Panel, double-click Power Options, click the APM tab, and then click to select the Enable Advanced Power Management Support check box.
