SYMPTOMS

When you try to move a mailbox from a computer running Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 to a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, the operation does not work and you receive the following error message:

One user must be given primary user rights on this mailbox

ID no.: c1034ad3
Microsoft Active Directory - Exchange Extension

There are two instances of the following event in the application log:

Event Type: Error Event Source: MailDSMX Event Category: (7) Event ID: 1008 Date: 11/12/1999 Time: 12:44:59 PM User: N/A Computer: RED-MSG-15

CAUSE

The msExchMasterAccountSID attribute is set and the dump of the security descriptor doesn't have a corresponding Access Control Entry (ACE):

CMailboxSD: 0: allow domain\mailbox 0x00000003 0x00000000
CMailboxSD: 1: allow domain\mailbox 0x00000003 0x00000000

WORKAROUND

If you delete the msExchMasterAccountSID attribute, Move Mailbox works.

STATUS

This behavior is by design but is being investigated as an Active Directory Connector issue.
