This article was previously published under Q247013

SYMPTOMS

After you install Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 3 on a computer that uses the Analysis tools against a SQL Server 7.0 database, a large reduction in the amount of organization look ups may occur when WHOIS queries are performed against any new Analysis databases.

A large number of Unknown Organizations may also be reported when you do Analysis reports against referring domains.

CAUSE

This problem occurs due to changes in a stored procedure used by the Usage Import application.

NOTE: This problem only occurs with new Analysis databases created in SQL Server 7.0, after Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 3 is applied. This problem does not affect SQL Server 6.5 databases or pre-existing SQL Server 7.0 databases.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Site Server version 3.0. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Site Server 3.0. This problem was first corrected in Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 4.

MORE INFORMATION

After you apply this fix, you must either create a new Analysis database with the Database Setup Wizard and re-import your logs or use the following steps to preserve the Log Data Source, Server and Site properties:

  1. Start Usage Import.
  2. Delete your current imported log files using Import History Manager.
  3. Close Usage Import.
  4. Run Database Setup from the Start Menu.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select Update an existing database, and then click Next.
  7. Enter the connection information for the database you want to update, and then click Connect.
  8. Disable all check boxes except the Create stored procedures check box. It is important that this is the only check box that is selected. Selecting other check boxes will result in data loss. Click Update DB.
  9. Click OK to confirm that the database was updated.
  10. Click Finish.
  11. When the Database Setup completes, re-import your log files.
