SYMPTOMS

When you try to use a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional to add a printer on a remote computer, the Add Printer Wizard on the remote computer does not install the printer driver.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the printer you want to add requires a language monitor that is not installed on the remote computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.

MORE INFORMATION

If you try to install a language monitor on the other computer, working remotely, you may experience the following problems:

  • The %SystemRoot%\System 32 folder may be locked.
  • There is no application programming interface (API) to find the %SystemRoot%\System 32 folder on the remote computer.
  • There is no way to tell whether the language monitor is compatible with the remote computer.
