Word Err Msg: Word Version 3.11n: File Is in Use

PSS ID Number: Q24689 Article last modified on 11-02-1994

3.11n

MS-DOS

SUMMARY

If you use Microsoft Word for DOS version 3.11n on a Novell network, Word may return a “File is in use” error message when you try to load a file.

If you load a file and then run the Transfer Clear All command, other people should be able to load the same file without any difficulty. However, on Novell networks, the first person who loads the file must exit the program with the Quit command to make that file available to another person.

Networks that include a disk caching feature do not respond to the Transfer Clear All command until the cache has had enough information written that it is required to write the buffer to disk. If you encounter this problem, refer to your specific network documentation for more detailed information on disk caching.
