256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry
After you edit the value of the DisabledExtensions key in the system registry, you see the following error message when you use the Text Import Wizard to import data:
You have Microsoft Jet 3.5 Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed, and the DisabledExtensions key value is more than 31 characters long.
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Shorten the DisabledExtensions registry key value to 31 characters or fewer.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Jet 3.5 Service Pack 3.
If you have the DisabledExtensions key for Jet 3.5, it is at the following location in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software \Microsoft \Jet \3.5 \Engines \Text \DisabledExtensions
