FIX: Access Violation When Loading 5 MB SQL File in Execute SQL Task on Win 9x

SYMPTOMS

When you create a new Data Transformation Services (DTS) package in the SQL Enterprise Manager, click the Execute SQL Task button (or use the Task menu item), and then attempt to load a 5 MB script file, an Access Violation (AV) will be reported with an error message similar to the following:

This program has performed and illegal operation
and will be shut down.

If the program persists, contact the program
vendor.

WORKAROUND

Divide the script into smaller files and execute multiple SQL tasks.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 2 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
