SUMMARY

This article explains how to uninstall Interix.

MORE INFORMATION

  1. Log on to the computer as the Administrator.
  2. Click the Start button on the taskbar, point to Programs, point to Interix, and then click Uninstall Commands and Utilities.

NOTE: This removes commands, utilities, and documentation.

  1. Remove the Interix folder, which is not deleted during the uninstall process, to make sure users do not accidentally remove their profiles.
  2. Remove the Softway Systems folder from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE registry key.
  3. To restore the Microsoft Windows subsystem, insert the Interix CD-ROM and, when you are prompted as to whether you want to install Interix, reinstall the subsystem only, or restore the previous subsystem, select the option to restore the previous subsystem.

NOTE: To find out what subsystem you are running, view the file properties version of System32/Psxss.exe.

To reinstall Interix, first check to see whether any Interix services are installed. If there are some, remove them or set them to manual. Then restart your computer, log on as the Administrator, and reinstall Interix.
