SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Personal Web Server (PWS) or Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS), you may receive one of the following error messages:

Microsoft Transaction Server Setup
An unknown error occurred while making MTS specific changes to the system registry.
Error Code = 0x80004005

-or-


Windows Setup
Setup of "Transaction Server Core Components" failed. The specific error code is 0xfee662.
Setup will continue but the component may not function properly.

-or-


Sysocmgr caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module User.exe.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the registry is large when you attempt to install PWS or MTS.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, download the updated version of the Mtssetup.dll file, and then reinstall PWS or MTS. To do this:

  1. Uninstall PWS or MTS.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
  3. Click Show All Files.
  4. Create a temporary folder named Temp on drive C of your hard disk.
  5. Copy the MTS or PWS Setup files from the CD-ROM (or from another location from which you originally installed them) to the Temp folder. For example, if you installed MTS or PWS from the Windows 98 CD-ROM, copy the files from the Add-ons\PWS folder to the Temp folder that you just created.
  6. Download the updated Mtssetup.exe, which contains the updated Mtssetup.dll file, from Microsoft Download Center (click the link in the "Download Mtssetup" section in this article).
  7. Double-click Mtssetup.exe to extract the Mtssetup.dll file.
  8. Replace the Mtssetup.dll file in the Temp folder with the file that you downloaded in step 6. Note that this file should be version 1997.11.532.0 and 622,592 bytes in size.
  9. Run Setup.exe from the Temp folder, and then install PWS or MTS.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

To install this updated version of the Mtssetup.dll file, you must reinstall MTS or PWS. To do this:

  1. Create a temporary folder named Temp on drive C of your hard disk.
  2. Copy the MTS or PWS Setup files from the CD-ROM (or from another location from which you originally installed them) to the Temp folder. For example, if you installed MTS or PWS from the Windows 98 CD-ROM, copy the files from the Add-ons\PWS folder to the Temp folder that you just created.


If you installed MTS or PWS from the Windows NT Option Pack, copy the files from the NTOptPak\En\x86\Win.95 folder to the Temp folder that you just created

  1. Download the updated Mtssetup.exe, which contains the updated Mtssetup.dll from the Microsoft Download Center (click the link that is at the beginning of this section).
  2. Double-click Mtssetup.exe to extract the Mtssetup.dll file.
  3. Replace the Mtssetup.dll file in the Temp folder with the Mtssetup.dll file that you downloaded in step 3. This file should be version 1997.11.532.0 and 622,592 bytes in size.
  4. Run Setup.exe from the Temp folder, and then install MTS or PWS.
