Summary:

To use Microsoft File with systems that do not include a hard disk, make an exact duplicate of the master program disk as described in your owner's manual. Use this backup copy to run the File program.

To install File versions 1.02 and 1.04 (which are copy-protected) on a system with a hard disk, use the hard disk install program included on the master disk and drag the icon of the Help file onto the hard disk. If this procedure indicates that the hard disk utility cannot be used on your type of hard disk, drag the icons of all files except the System Folder over to the hard disk (do not drag the disk icon over to the hard disk). The latter procedure is also recommended for installing versions 1.00 and 1.01 (which are copy-protected) and 1.05 (which is not copy-protected) onto a hard disk.

File versions 1.00, 1.01, 1.02, and 1.04 are copy-protected. Insert the master disk whenever you first use File after starting your Macintosh computer, unless you used the hard disk install routine successfully. File version 1.05 is not copy-protected.

For other differences among these versions, query on "File: History of Updates."

To update to the current version of File, call Microsoft End User Sales and Service at (800) 426-9400 or go to the Microsoft Web site http://www.microsoft.com/worldwide/default.htm

Note: it is not recommended that you update the System Folder on your master disk. Never alter the master disk in any way. Do not use it to run the File program.
