POP3 Connector Does Not Retrieve E-Mail Messages After You Remove IMS

Article ID: 245616

Article Last Modified on 5/18/2001

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5

This article was previously published under Q245616

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft POP3 Connector for BackOffice Small Business Server does not retrieve e-mail messages after Microsoft Internet Mail Service (IMS) has been removed and reinstalled.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because when you install IMS the internet domain is not replicated to the POP3 Connector database. NOTE: During the installation of IMS you are required to provide the internet domain to generate the recipients' e-mail address. All the recipients' SMTP Reply addresses are updated to reflect the new domain.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue if you are using Individual POP3 Accounts, configure the properties page for the POP3 Mailbox and re-assign the exchange account to that mailbox. Although it may seem to have the same settings, the re-alignment of the exchange box to the pop3 box resolves this issue.

If you are using a Global ISP Account, make sure that each Exchange recipient has the correct SMTP Address on the Email Addresses tab in the recipient's properties.
