SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 Service Pack 3 may stop responding and crash unexpectedly when adding HTML markup to auto-forwarded items.

CAUSE

There is an access violation in the information store because of heap corruption.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 Service Pack 3. This problem was first corrected in Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 4.

IMPORTANT: The Store.exe file for the fix is modified to provide additional application programming interface (API) support. When you apply the fix, it automatically upgrades the information store. After the upgrade, the server cannot be restored to any older version of the Store.exe file before build 2651.32
