SUMMARY

This article describes how to use a client configuration script.

MORE INFORMATION

Every time you open a Web browser, you have the option to download a client configuration script, written in JavaScript. The script is located on the Proxy Server and downloaded to the client computer to improve browser performance and to update your browser configuration.

The script is executed against every URL that the browser requests. This off-loads some of the routing work performed by computers in the Proxy Server array. The output of this script provides an ordered series of Proxy Servers that the browser uses to retrieve the object specified by the URL. The script is stored at a specific URL on any Proxy Server in an array. You can use the script to update all Web browser settings without having to reconfigure each individual Web browser. Microsoft Internet Explorer (versions 3.02 or later) and Netscape browsers (versions 2.0 or later) support this feature.

When a Web browser loads the configuration script, the Proxy Server intercepts the request and returns the default script that is automatically generated to the browser. You configure this option in the Client Configuration dialog box of Proxy Server.

Alternatively, you can manually create your own configuration script using JavaScript, and place it on your Web server. When a Web browser uses the configuration script, your Web server intercepts the request and returns the custom script to the browser.

NOTE: The configuration script created using JavaScript benefits routing performance only if the Web Proxy client browser points directly to a Proxy Server array. For additional information about scripts, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
