Article ID: 243811

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Data Engine 1.0

This article was previously published under Q243811

SUMMARY

When you install the Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) from the MSDE redistribution package, you will not get diagnostic tools such as Sqldiag.exe.

This behavior is by design. However, customers can obtain the Sqldiag.exe file from the SQL Server Developer Edition that ships with MSDE for Visual Studio CD (\x86\binn\sqldiag.exe or \alpha\binn\sqldiag.exe) and package that tool in their setup programs.

MORE INFORMATION

The Sqldiag.exe tool is intended to expedite and simplify information gathering by Microsoft Product Support Services.

For MSDE, the sqldiag.exe utility gathers and stores diagnostic information into the \Mssql7\Log\Sqldiag.txt file. This output file includes error logs, output from sp_configure and additional version information. It also stores the contents of the query history trace (if running) in the Mssql7\Log\Sqldiag.trc file.
