SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, the text in the presentation may be larger than it was when you saved it. It may become so large that it no longer fits on the slide, and may run off the bottom or side of the slide.

If you resize the text and save your presentation, the problem still occurs when you open the presentation again.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To obtain SR-1/SR-1a, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To temporarily work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Check the slide master to see whether or not there are text placeholders:

  1. On the View menu, point to Master, and then click Slide Master.
  2. On the Format menu, click Master Layout.
  3. Make sure that the Text check box is selected in the Master Layout dialog box.

NOTE: Placeholders that are already in place appear shaded and are unavailable.

Method 2

Apply the blank slide layout to the affected slide:

  1. Go to the affected slide in normal view.
  2. On the Format menu, click Slide Layout.
  3. Click Blank (the blank slide icon), and then click Apply.

When you do this, the slide layout may change slightly and the text may change size. The objects should be repositioned and reformatted properly. After you apply the blank slide layout, the text should no longer grow larger when you open the file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
