SUMMARY

Windows 2000 Terminal Services runs in one of two modes: Application Server or Remote Administration Server. This article describes how to determine which mode a Terminal Services server is using.

MORE INFORMATION

Application Server mode is synonymous with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, in that it serves programs to connected users. Remote Administration mode is a new feature in Windows 2000 Terminal Services that allows two administrative connections to any given server running Terminal Services.

To determine which mode a Terminal Services server is using:

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Administrative Tools.
  2. Click Terminal Services Configuration.
  3. Click Server Settings.
  4. Locate the Terminal server mode row in the right pane. The mode is listed in the Attributes column.

If you double-click Terminal server mode, Windows 2000 calls the ShellExecute API function and a dialog box opens. This dialog box describes how to change modes. For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
