SYMPTOMS

An issue occurs after you install the Exchange Server Chat Service fix that is referred to in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

218955 XFOR: Chat Service Fails DPA Authentication with 9-Character User Names


Chat clients that try to create an Internet Relay Chat Extension (IRCX) channel using certain double-byte character set (DBCS) characters do not create the channel, and the following error message is displayed:

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Exchange Server 5.5. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 4.
