SYMPTOMS
If a user is a Windows NT administrator of the OLAP server computer but is not a member of the OLAP administrators group, cube access is always denied. This occurs even if the user is mapped to a role that has read or read/write access to the cube. This behavior is seen from clients such as the MDX sample application, Excel 2000 and so forth.
When executing a MDX statement from the MDX sample application, the user sees the following message:
Or, when a particular cube is selected in the MDX sample application, the user sees the following message:
When trying to access the cube from Excel 2000, after clicking the Finish button in the Pivot Table and Pivot Chart wizard the user sees the following message:
WORKAROUND
Removing the user from the Administrators group on the server computer provides the user access to OLAP cubes for which he/she has permissions.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 2 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
