This article was previously published under Q236034

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open the Small Business Server console on a computer that runs Small Business Server 4.5 or Small Business Server 4.0 with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack installed, you may receive one of the following error messages:

Internet Explorer cannot open the site http://localhost/admin/4.5.
A connection with the server could not be established.

-or-

The page cannot be displayed.

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the default Web site is changed from the installation default. The default is "All Unassigned."

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure the default Web site to use all unassigned addresses:

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, click Microsoft Proxy Server, and then double-click Microsoft Management Console.
  2. Expand Internet Information Server.
  3. Expand your server name.
  4. Click Default Web Site, and then right-click Default Web Site to view the properties.
  5. Click the Web Site tab.
  6. In the IP Address box, click All Unassigned.
  7. Close the Properties dialog box, and quit Microsoft Management Console.
