SYMPTOMS
When you use Removable Storage Manager (RSM) with a stand-alone drive or library, you may receive a message that requests the media be mounted, even though it is already in the drive.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if your tape drive needs to be cleaned. If the tape drive needs to be cleaned, the drive is not mountable. Because of this, the OMID process in RSM may not work, and a message requesting insertion of media is generated even if it is already in the drive.
This may also occur if another application (this may include a manual mount operation by an operator) mounted the media but never dismounted it, or the application failed (abended) before dismounting it.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, clean the tape drive. For information about how to do so, please view the documentation included with your tape drive, or contact the manufacturer of the tape drive.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
