SYMPTOMS

When you click the First Record, Previous Record, Next Record, or Last Record button on the Mail Merge toolbar, the record number changes, but the information displayed using the View Merged Data button does not change.

CAUSE

A record has been found using the Find Record button on the Mail Merge toolbar.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To temporarily work around this problem, use the Find Record button on the Mail Merge toolbar to search for a non-existent record. After the search fails, the functionality of the First Record, Previous Record, Next Record, and Last Record buttons is restored.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.

When you are in a mail merge main document and use the Find Record button on the Mail Merge toolbar to search for a particular record, information for the last found record is displayed when the View Merged Data button is active. The First Record, Previous Record, Next Record, and Last Record buttons have no effect on the displayed information until an unsuccessful search is run using the Find Record button.
