SYMPTOMS
When you receive a message from a Microsoft Exchange Server computer using the POP3 Internet Protocol, the message text may be wrapped after 72 characters. This behavior can be observed when the Message Encoding is set to MIME and the "Provide Message Body as plain Text" option is enabled.
RESOLUTION
Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Exchange Server version 5.5. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

This hotfix and later service packs resolve this problem for non-cluster Exchange Server environments. If you install this hotfix or a later service pack, you do not have to follow the steps in the "Workaround" section for non-cluster environments. However, this fix does not resolve the problem in Exchange Server cluster environments. If you are running Exchange Server in a cluster environment and you experience the problem in the "Symptoms" section, apply the hotfix, and then if the problem is not resolved, follow the steps in the "Workaround" section.
WORKAROUND
Exchange Server 5.5
To change the message text word-wrap in Exchange Server 5.5, a new registry key was created.
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To correct this problem, apply the fix that is described in the "Resolution" section, and then follow these steps:
- Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value Name: Pop3 Line Wrap Size Data Type: REG_DWORD Value: Type the maximum line length in either decimal or hexadecimal.Note The registry key is case-sensitive. Also note that the value must be greater than 72 (decimal). Setting the value too high (range 100,000) may cause the information store to stop because of stack overflow.
- Quit Registry Editor.
- For this change to take effect, you must stop and restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store.
Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003
To change the message text word-wrap in an Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 environment, you must create a new registry key.

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
- Start Registry Editor.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\POP3Svc\Parameters - On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type Line Length, and then press Enter.
- Double-click the Line Length subkey, and then click Decimal.
- In the Value data box, type a value that is greater than 72, and then click OK.
Note The registry key is case-sensitive. Also note that the value must be greater than 72 (decimal). Setting the value too high (range 100,000) may cause the information store to stop because of stack overflow. - Quit Registry Editor.
- For this change to take effect, you must stop and restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store.
