SYMPTOMS

You use Rich Text mail format to add a vCard to your AutoSignature in Microsoft Outlook. However, you prefer that the vCard not be included in some messages. For these messages, you delete the vCard icon. However, the vCard is still sent. If you delete the entire AutoSignature from the message, the vCard remains in the received message.

Note In Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, vCards are referred to as Electronic Business Cards.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods:

  • Define a separate AutoSignature for use with e-mail messages in which you do not want to include a vCard. Make that AutoSignature the default.
  • Use either Plain Text or HTML as your mail format.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

To use an alternate AutoSignature as the default, follow these steps, as appropriate for the version of Outlook that you are running.

Outlook 2007

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Mail Format tab, click Signatures.
  3. Click New, type a name for this signature, and then click OK.
  4. Format the characteristics of the AutoSignature without adding the Business Card.
  5. Under Choose default signature, select the new signature, and then click OK two times.

To use the AutoSignature that contains the vCard, create a new mail message, and then delete the default signature. On the Insert tab, click Signature in the Include group, and then click the AutoSignature that contains the vCard.

Microsoft Office Outlook 2003

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Mail Format tab, click Signatures.
  3. Click New. In the Create New Signature wizard, type a name for the signature in the Enter a name for this signature box, click to select the Start with a blank signature option, and then click Next.
  4. In the Signature text area, format the characteristics of the AutoSignature without adding the Business Card from vCard options area.
  5. In the Signature area, select the new signature, and then click OK.

To use the AutoSignature that contains the vCard, create a new mail message, and then delete the default signature. On the Insert menu, point to AutoText, point to Signature, and then click the AutoSignature that contains the vCard.

Microsoft Outlook 2000

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.
  2. Click Signature Picker, and then click New. Format the characteristics of the AutoSignature, give the AutoSignature a distinctive name, and then click OK.
  3. In the Use this Signature By Default list, click to select the AutoSignature that does not contain the vCard as the default.
