OFF2000: Menus Missing When You Run Microsoft Script Editor

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Microsoft Script Editor in any of the Microsoft Office 2000 programs, the menus and toolbars are not visible.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you do all of the following:

  • You log on to Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 as an administrator or as a user who is part of the administrators group.-and-


  • You apply the high security template (Hisecws4.inf) from the Microsoft Security Configuration Manager in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 or later.-and-


  • You run Office Setup and use the /jm switch to advertise Office.-and-


  • You log off as an administrator and then log on as a user.-and-


  • You install Microsoft Office and choose Run from My Computer for HTML Source Editing and Run from Network for the main Office programs such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Access.


RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, remove the Microsoft Script Editor and then install it again by following these steps:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click Microsoft Office 2000, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Add/Remove.
  5. Click the plus sign (+) next to Office Tools to expand it. Click the HTML Source Editing icon, and then click Not Available.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Repeat steps 1 through 4.
  8. Click the plus sign (+) next to Office Tools to expand it. Click the HTML Source Editing icon, and then click Run all from My Computer.
  9. Click Continue.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
