SUMMARY

This article explains what themes are and how they work with existing Web content in Microsoft FrontPage 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

FrontPage 2000 themes can be viewed in the Themes dialog box when you select Themes on the Format menu in FrontPage.

The theme sample shows you all the different layout and component possibilities within a particular theme. Applying a theme to your Web does not automatically add all of the components shown in the Sample of Theme window to your Web pages.

A theme does not define the location of navigation bars, the layout of a page, the template on which a page is based, or the structure of the Web. These are all different features that work closely together, but they are not specifically part of a theme. A theme simply alters the appearance of certain elements on the page. Not all of those elements shown in the Theme preview may appear on each page.

For example, navigation bars are not automatically added to your page if they are not on your page before you apply a theme. And text will not be formatted automatically in the Heading 1 style if this formatting was not applied to your text before you applied the theme.

A theme is just a definition of colors and graphics that enhances the look and feel of your Web site by creating uniformity. The bullets, horizontal lines, navigation controls, and font options are applied to the whole Web automatically.

Some settings, such as the background properties of a page, become unavailable when you apply a theme. For additional information about thesesettings, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
