SYMPTOMS

The system date reflects the current values in the Control Panel Date/Time tool. You do not have to click OK or Apply for the system to reflect a new value.

RESOLUTION

Windows NT 4.0

Windows NT 3.1, 3.5, and 3.51

To work around this behavior, it is recommended that you synchronize your date with a computer on your network. To do this, type the following command at an MS-DOS command prompt, and then press ENTER:

   net time [\\computername | /domain[:domainname]] [/set]
                

Alternatively, make sure that any services that record data along with date information are paused or stopped while the date is changed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5.

MORE INFORMATION

The system will reflect the current value for the duration of time that the tool is open. If you click Cancel, the system date will revert to its original setting. Any files saved during the time the tool is open with an adjusted date will reflect the adjusted date in the modified field.
