SUMMARY

Service packs are the means by which Microsoft distributes bug fixes and other updates that help keep a product current. The updates in service packs may include system administration tools, drivers, and additional components, which are bundled for easy downloading. Each new service pack is cumulative. Each new service pack contains all the fixes that exist in previous service packs, as well as any new fixes. You do not need to install a previous service pack before you install the latest one. For example, you do not need to install Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4) before you apply Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 5 (SP5).

Visual Studio 6.0 service packs affect the Professional and Enterprise Editions of the following products:

  • Visual Studio 6.0
  • Visual Basic 6.0
  • Visual C++ 6.0
  • Visual FoxPro 6.0
  • Visual J++ 6.0
  • Visual SourceSafe 6.0

Visual Studio 6.0 service packs cover all English versions of these products, as well as all localized versions. Each service pack detects the files you have installed on your system and installs the appropriate fixes. Localized versions include:

  • Chinese, Traditional
  • Chinese, Simplified
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Spanish

In addition, each service pack also provides the source files and debug versions of the Microsoft Visual C++ run-time components for developers using Visual C++.

The full description of the fixed bugs and all changed files is in the ReadMe.

MORE INFORMATION

How do I uninstall a Visual Studio 6.0 service pack?

There is no automated uninstallation for the Visual Studio 6.0 service packs.

How do I tell if a Visual Studio 6.0 service pack is installed?

The Help About box for developer tools may indicate what updates have been made since the initial installation. This is not a guaranteed method for all products.

To determine if a service pack has been installed for a developer tool, check the version information in file properties for updated files. Check the service pack ReadMe file for files and versions updated.
