SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you update the percent complete on a task that has been split, Microsoft Project may reschedule the split portion of the task incorrectly.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur when you do the following:
- You assign a percent complete greater than zero to a fixed duration task.
- In the Gantt Chart, you click the task, and drag the uncompleted portion of the task to create a split.
- You change the percent complete for the task.
Microsoft Project reschedules the latter portion of the split to the position it had before being split.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows Service Release 1 (SR-1).
To temporarily work around this problem, use menu commands to create the split task, instead of clicking the uncompleted portion of the task and dragging it to create the split. To create a split using menu commands, click Split Task on the Edit menu, and then click the task that you want split.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
For additional information about obtaining and installing SR-1, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
