SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, when you open a project that shares resources from a resource pool, the project may take a longer time to open than expected.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur when the following conditions are true:
- The resource pool that the project file is sharing resources from is already open or in memory.
-and-
- At least one project that shares resources from the same resource pool is already open or in memory.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
For additional information about obtaining and installing SR-1, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION
As more projects are opened, it takes cumulatively more time for a project to connect to a resource pool. For example, if you have two projects that share resources from the same resource pool, the first project may take 10 seconds to connect to the resource pool, and the second project, which has the same size and configuration, may take 20 seconds.
The time it takes to connect a project to the resource pool is the total time to connect the previously connected projects to the resource pool, plus the time to connect the current project.
