SUMMARY

Because Microsoft Office 97 includes Microsoft Outlook 97, if you have Microsoft Outlook 98 installed on your computer when you install Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2), certain Outlook files and registry entries may be overwritten or may not be updated correctly. This article discusses what you should be aware of to ensure proper operation of Outlook 98.

MORE INFORMATION

If You Install by Using Office 97 SR-2 Patch

If you use the SR-2 Patch, you do not have to do anything. The patch does not affect Outlook 98.

If You Install by Using Office 97 SR-2 Compact Disc

If you use the complete Microsoft Office 97 Standard or Microsoft Office 97 Professional Edition compact disc version of SR-2, you must choose not to install Outlook during the initial stages of the SR-2 Setup. Microsoft Office 97 SR-2 installs updates designed for Microsoft Outlook 97. If you've already upgraded to Microsoft Outlook 98, you should perform a Custom installation of Microsoft Office 97 SR-2 and not choose Microsoft Outlook. In other words, click the Custom button on the Microsoft Office 97 Setup dialog box, and then click to clear (uncheck) the check box for Microsoft Outlook.

If You've Already Installed by Using Office 97 SR-2 Compact Disc

If you've already installed the complete Microsoft Office 97 Standard or Microsoft Office 97 Professional Edition compact disc version of SR-2, (including Outlook) over an existing copy of Outlook 98, you should reinstall Outlook 98 to ensure proper operation.
