Article ID: 191231

Article Last Modified on 1/23/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Project 98 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q191231

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you open a consolidated project, if all the inserted projects' subtasks are hidden, it may take an unexpectedly long time to open, and the status bar indicates the inserted projects are opening.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the consolidated project contains data that you copied from one inserted project and paste linked into another inserted project.

NOTE: Although the inserted projects' subtasks are hidden (collapsed) in the consolidated project, and would not normally be opened, any project that contains the source of a paste link will always be opened.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).

NOTE: SR-1 corrects this problem both in existing projects created in Microsoft Project 98, and in new projects created in SR-1.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, ServiceRelease 1 (SR-1).

For additional information about obtaining and installing SR-1, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
