PRJ98: Timephased BCWP May Be Incorrect in the Task Usage View

Article ID: 189813

Article Last Modified on 1/23/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Project 98 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q189813

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, in the Task Usage view, timephased BCWP (budgeted cost of work performed) may be calculated incorrectly.

NOTE: Task BCWP is still calculated correctly.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when all of the following conditions are true:

  • You have assigned a fixed cost to a task.

  • Fixed Cost Accrual for the task is set to Prorated.

  • No resources are assigned to the task.

  • In the project calendar, one or more periods of default nonworking time have been changed to working time.

  • One or more of these periods of non-default working time fall between the task's start and finish dates.

  • You save a baseline for the task after the calendar was changed.

  • You update the task's percentage complete so that Actual Work occurs during one or more of the periods of non-default working time.

This problem occurs because timephased BCWP is not being incremented during the periods of non-default working time. Views or macros that are based on timephased BCWP (such as the Analyzed_Timescaled_Data macro and the timephased columns in the Task Usage view) will show incorrect values.

NOTE: Because calculation of task BCWP is not based on calculation of timephased BCWP, task BCWP will still be calculated correctly.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, ServiceRelease 1 (SR-1).
