SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you update percent complete for a task, all percent complete values and BCWP values may appear in the first time period of the Task Usage view.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when all of the following conditions are true:

  • The option "Updating task status updates resource status" is cleared.

  • One or more resources are assigned to the task.

  • A resource assigned to the task has a Standard Rate greater than zero.

  • A baseline has been saved for the project.

  • Status date for the project is later than the finish date of the task.

  • You enter a non-timescaled percent complete for a task.

NOTE: To change the "Updating task status updates resource status" option, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. In the Options dialog box, click the Calculation tab.
  3. Click to clear the Updating task status updates resource status check box. Click OK.

RESOLUTION

To correct this behavior, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
