Problems When You Click Find Target on a Desktop Shortcut

SYMPTOMS

When you right-click an icon on the desktop, click Properties, and then click Find Target, you may receive the following error message:

Explorer:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.


If you then click Details, you may see the following information:

EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module SHDOCVW.DLL at <memory address>.


If you then click Close, you may receive the following error message:

There was an internal error and one of the windows you were using will be closed. It is recommended that you save your work and close all programs, and then restart your computer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, restart your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 98.
