SUMMARY

If you install Microsoft Outlook 97 on Microsoft Windows 98, you may not have Microsoft Mail or Microsoft Fax as available services in Outlook. In addition, other MAPI services such as Internet Mail and the Microsoft Network may not work.

Windows Messaging (previously known as Exchange Client) and Microsoft Fax (previously known as At Work Fax) are no longer available as installation options with Windows 98.

Run the Windows Messaging (Wms.exe) installer and the Microsoft Fax (Awfax.exe) installer, from the Message folder on your Windows 98 compact disc.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows Messaging and Microsoft Fax are no longer available as installation options with Windows 98. Instead, they are installed by running standalone programs from your Windows 98 compact disc. You can find these programs in the folder:

<CD drive>:\tools\oldwin95\message\

To Install Windows Messaging

  1. Double-click Wms.exe and follow the prompts from the installation wizard.
  2. Reboot your computer after setup is complete to finalize your system settings.

This will install Windows Messaging and Microsoft Mail Postoffice. It will also add an Inbox icon to the Desktop, and Mail and Microsoft Mail Postoffice icons to the Control Panel.

To Install Microsoft Fax

NOTE: To function, Microsoft Fax requires the installation of a full MAPI client such as Windows Messaging, Microsoft Exchange, or Outlook 97.

  1. Double-click Awfax.exe, and follow the prompts from the installation wizard.
  2. Reboot your computer after setup is complete to finalize your system settings.

This will add a Microsoft Fax Printer to the Printers folder.
