SYMPTOMS

You can send an e-mail message by choosing "Check for New Mail On" in Microsoft Outlook 97 using the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch (IMEP). However, the sent message may not leave your Outbox, although you are able to connect and download e-mail.

CAUSE

You are using multiple Internet Service accounts and you have chosen to send mail on an account that is not the default outgoing service.

While Outlook with IMEP supports multiple Internet services for e-mail, you can specify only one as the default delivery account.

RESOLUTION

Send e-mail using the default e-mail delivery account.

-or-

Change the account you wish to use as your default e-mail delivery account.

MORE INFORMATION

To send e-mail with the current default e-mail delivery account, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click "Check for new mail on."
  2. Click to select the account at the bottom of the list. This should be the default account, assuming you restarted Outlook after setting it as the default.

To specify a different account as the default e-mail delivery account, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Services.
  2. On the Delivery tab, click to select the service you wish to be the default delivery account.
  3. Click the arrow to move the selected account to the top of the list and click OK.
  4. Quit and restart Outlook.
