PRJ98: Cannot Resolve Overallocation Error Message When Leveling

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you level a project, you may receive the following error message:

Microsoft Project cannot resolve the overallocation of "<resource name>" on <date>.

To continue leveling other overallocated resources, click Skip.

To continue leveling and skip overallocations that cannot be resolved, click Skip All.

To stop the current leveling operation, click Stop. To remove the effects of leveling you can perform a Clear Leveling operation from the Resource Leveling dialog.

NOTE: In addition to this error, you may receive unexpected splits in one or more tasks.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you level a project with an overallocated resource, and that resource is assigned nonworking time on the Project Start Date.

WORKAROUND

To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows Service Release 1 (SR-1).


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
