SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project 98, in a project where a baseline has been saved, when you view either the Task Usage or Resource Usage view, the following timephased fields may be blank:
Baseline Work
Baseline Cost
Budgeted Cost of Work Schedules (BCWS)
Budgeted Cost of Work Performed (BCWP)
Cost Variance (CV)
Schedule Variance (SV)
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when you do the following:
- You change the Baseline Start or Baseline Finish field for a task, without first viewing the fields listed in the "Symptoms" section in either the Task Usage view or Resource Usage view.
- You then save, close and then reopen the project.
When you view any of the timephased fields listed in the "Symptoms" section in either of the Usage views, information is missing.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use the method appropriate for your situation.
Method 1
If you have not saved and closed the project since you changed the Baseline Start or Baseline Finish for the task, follow these steps:
- On the View menu, click Task Usage.
- On the Format menu, click Detail Styles and then click the Usage Details tab.
- Under Available Fields, click Baseline Work and click Show.
- Repeat step 3 for the following fields.
Baseline Cost
Budgeted Cost of Work Schedules (BCWS)
Budgeted Cost of Work Performed (BCWP)
Cost Variance (CV)
Schedule Variance (SV) - Click OK after the fields in step 4 appear in the Show These Fields list.
When you save the project, the behavior described in the "Symptoms" section will not occur.
Method 2
If you have saved, closed and reopened your project since you changed the Baseline Start or Baseline Finish, you must resave the baseline to restore the timescaled values. To resave the baseline for the affected tasks, follow these steps:
- Select all of the tasks that display the symptoms.
- On the Tools menu, point to Tracking, and click Save Baseline.
- In the Save Baseline dialog box, click Save Baseline and then click Selected Tasks. Click OK.
After saving the baseline, change the Baseline Start and/or Baseline Finish to the appropriate day, and then follow method 1 above.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
