Article ID: 184672

Article Last Modified on 1/22/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Project 98 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q184672

SYMPTOMS

The instructions in the "Run the Client Installation in Batch Mode" section of the Setup.wri file incorrectly lists the following command lines:

Typical setup /Q1 /B1
Complete setup /Q1 /B3
Workstation setup /Q1 /B4
Uninstall setup /Q1 /U

Using the /B3 switch will actually result in a Workstation installation and using the /B4 will actually result in a Typical installation.

NOTE: In Project 98 SR-1, the /B3 switch will result in a Workstation install and as stated in the Setup.wri the /B4 switch will result in a Workstation install.

WORKAROUND

Use the following switches when you perform a client installation in batch mode, installing Microsoft Project from a server:

Typical setup /Q1 /B1
Complete setup /Q1 /B2
Workstation setup /Q1 /B3
Uninstall setup /Q1 /U

For more information about setting up Microsoft Project 98, refer to the file named Setup.wri. This file is usually installed in the default Microsoft Project folder:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office

Note that the folder name will be different if you did not select the default location during setup.

NOTE: In Project 98 SR-1, Setup.wri still includes incorrect switches, use the following switches:

Typical setup /Q1 /B1
Complete setup /Q1 /B2
Workstation setup /Q1 /B4
Uninstall setup /Q1 /U

NOTE: In SR-1, the /B3 switch will also result in a Workstation install, however other problems may be associated with it's use and it is recommended to avoid using that switch.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
