SYMPTOMS

If Socks is enabled, and the computer has more than one IP address bound to the internal network adapter, an access violation or Dr. Watson error may occur. This problem may occur even if the Socks service is not used by any clients.

A Dr. Watson error may also occur in Inetinfo.exe under the following circumstances:

  • When you open the Internet Service Manager for Internet Information Server (IIS) 3.0 on a computer that has Proxy Server 2.0 installed.
  • When you try to stop or start the Web Proxy Service via the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) on a computer running Internet Information Server 4.0 and Proxy Server 2.0.
  • When you try to stop or start the Web Proxy Service or WWW service on a computer running Internet Information Server 3.0 and Proxy Server 2.0.

CAUSE

This problem occurs due to corruption in the process heap.

RESOLUTION

This problem is resolved in Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1). For more information about Service Pack 1, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
