APPLIES TO

This article was previously published under Q182898

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, a project that shares resources with another project may display duplicate resources with the same Resource Name and Unique ID.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you do the following:

  1. You create two projects: a resource pool and a sharing project.

NOTE: The term "pool" is defined as a project that is a source of resources for resource sharing. A "sharing project" is a project that uses resources from the pool.

  1. You rename a resource in the pool while the sharing project is not open.
  2. Next, while the resource pool is not open, you create a new resource in the sharing project that has the same name as the resource you renamed in the pool.
  3. When you next open both the pool and the sharing project, the duplicate resource name appears in the sharing project.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1). For additional information about how to obtain and install SR-1, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To temporarily work around this problem, make sure to open all projects that share a resource pool when you modify any resource name in the pool.
