SYMPTOMS

When you use the Preview In Browser command in FrontPage Editor, while previewing an Active Server Page (ASP), you will be prompted by the browser to save the ASP file.

IMPORTANT: If you are using Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0 for Microsoft Windows NT Server, Microsoft Personal Web Server version 4.0 or later, or Internet Information Server 5.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000, you already have the ASP engine installed. It is automatically installed as a part of the core Web server installation. In other words, the information in this article does not apply to you if you are using IIS 4.0 for Windows NT Server or Personal Web Server version 4.0 or later.

CAUSE

The Web server you are using may not have the ASP engine installed. For example, if you are using one of the following derivative IIS 2.0 or 3.0 (IIS) servers, you must install the ASP engine separately from the Web server:

  • IIS 2.0 or 3.0 for Windows NT Server
  • Peer Web Services 1.0 for Windows NT Workstation
  • Microsoft Personal Web Server 1.0 for Windows 95

RESOLUTION

IMPORTANT: If you are not using one of the above mentioned servers, ASP will not install or function. Do not follow these instructions if your Web server is running IIS 4.0 or later, Personal Web Server version 4.0 or later, or IIS 5.0.

You can install the ASP engine by using one of the following methods.

Method 1: Run Asp.exe from the FrontPage 98 compact disc

  1. Insert the FrontPage 98 compact disc into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Open the \60 Minute Intranet Kit\60 Minute Intranet Kit\modules folder.
  3. Double-click the Asp.exe file.
  4. Follow the instructions on your screen.

Method 2: Download the ASP engine from the Microsoft World Wide Web site

Download the ASP engine from the following Microsoft World Wide Web site:
