SYMPTOMS
After you install Internet Explorer, restart your computer, and then log on to Windows NT 4.0, the System32 folder may be opened on your desktop instead of the "Welcome - Microsoft Internet Explorer" screen. In addition, the System32 folder may be opened when you attempt to open a channel. In both cases, the following message is displayed in Event Viewer:

This problem no longer occurs in Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1. To obtain Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1, please visit the following Microsoft Web site:
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
- Uninstall the Windows Desktop Update component. For information about how to do so, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

- When the Begin Logon dialog box appears, wait 30 seconds to 1 minute before you log on to Windows NT 4.0.
