SUMMARY

This article describes the effects of settings you can make in the Usage section of the Channel Item Properties Panel (step 4 of 7) in the Channel Definition Wizard.

NOTE: To run the Channel Definition Wizard, click Define Channel on the Tools menu in FrontPage Explorer.

MORE INFORMATION

Desktop Component

Selecting the Desktop Component option may override the usage settings for all other channel items. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 shell integration the channel will not appear in the Channels toolbar or anywhere else but the desktop component. If you are not using Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 shell integration, you will not be able to subscribe to the channel.

E-Mail Notification

Notification by e-mail will be sent only if it is explicitly requested by the channel subscriber during the subscription process. The channel subscriber will not receive e-mail automatically by subscribing to the channel without entering the custom subscription settings. If you want channel subscribers to receive e-mail notification through a custom subscription, you must select the E-Mail Notification option.

Channel

The Channel option is pre-selected.

Screen Saver

The Screen Saver option allows the selected page to be used as a screen saver. Only Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 supports this option.
