In Microsoft Project 98, when you attempt to open a Microsoft Project file from an FTP site, you receive the following error message. This message also appears when you attempt to save a file to an FTP site.

You cannot use an Internet address here. Enter a path that points to a location on your computer or on the network.

This error occurs when you attempt to open (or save) a file on an FTP server, by clicking Open (or Save) on the File menu, and selecting Internet Locations (FTP) in the Look In list. Microsoft Project 98 does not support opening or closing files using the Internet Locations (FTP) folder.

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods to open a Microsoft Project file from a FTP site:

  • Create a hyperlink to the Microsoft Project file located on an FTP site.

  • Open the FTP site in a Web browser and link to the file by typing the path to the file in the URL box. The FTP URL uses the following syntax: where <filename> is the name of the Microsoft Project file.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
